Gorgeous hike.

The scenery was absolutely beautiful. However the bathrooms were the nastiest bathrooms I have ever been in at a state park or anywhere for that matter. We even went in after they were “cleaned” and the only thing that changed was a new roll of toilet paper. They were covered in spiders and their webs. You couldn’t even go in the stall without the fear of being bit. The showers were a whole nother issue. You pull back the curtain and spider would scatter. It was just absolutely nasty. We had to drive to their “new” facilities that were supposedly cleaner. They were, a little. You could actually go in without fear of being bit right away. But there were still webs everywhere. We love Arkansas parks but this was a disappointment. I haven’t even mention how badly the trails were marked. Some places you could tell the marker fell off the tree and then they came in and spray painted a small square where the marker should be. Which would be fine other than the paint was so faded you missed half of them. Then there was the front help. I’m not even sure what the older ladies job was. You would ask a question and she would just kinda stare at you or not have a clue what you were asking. We asked for a couple jr ranger booklets. After realizing what I was talking about she found one and put it back in the drawer and told me no one was there to sign them. I told her one was fine but she just stood there. I finally convinced her that one was fine and she gave it to me. Another time we went in and asked for directions to the nearest restaurant since their cafe was closed. She said yes there was one close then just stood there... had we had cell reception we would have looked up a place but we didn’t (which was fine we knew we wouldn’t have it, but we did expect someone to be able to point us in the right direction) beautiful nature and history at this park. I just hate it’s so poorly ran.

Great trail system along Lee Creek in the Ozark National Forest at Devil's Den State Park. Suitable for hiking and mountain biking (beginner to intermediate). Look for the annual mountain bike festival in April. A fun event for the whole family.

Pros:

Have been to the park many times over a 35+ year time span. My parents used to take us here on summer vacations, and we've taken our kids there multiple times as well. In a world of quickly-created tourist towns/attractions with fake facades, its becoming more and more rare to find a REAL place, with real history that you know is authentic. Most any of the CCC parks will give you this, but, Devil's Den really is a special and unique place. When there, think back about how much hard work and manual effort was put into cutting, moving and building from the huge logs and stones. Heck, that's not an easy task THESE DAYS - even with the modern machinery we now have. If you can grasp an appreciation of the history here, you'll enjoy it even more.

fossils!

Our family had a wonderful reunion at Devil's Den in May 2017, and everyone loved the park! One young couple tent-camped, my hubby and I parked our trailer in a large site on Lee Creek, and the rest of the families stayed in cabins. Most were from out-of-state, and they were stunned at the high quality of all the facilities and the trails. Now the new shelters -- no utilities, but clustered near water and facilities -- will fill the gap between tent-sites and cabins. We'll definitely be back!

Good workout.

Another really nice one is Petit Jean State Park.

Quite rocky in a lot of places, difficult to hike and look at the scenery without slipping or tripping all of the time.

Cons:

Signage and markers are inadequate, easy to lose your way and stumble down the wrong path.
